The Citi Costco Anywhere Visa Card is Here!

Guys, I’m so excited!

I got this card in the mail today, and I can’t wait to use it. The new Costco Citi co-branded credit card is significantly better than the current American Express version. The cash back on nearly every earnings category has been increased – a whopping 4% cash back on gas, 3% on restaurants and travel, 2% at Costco (including Costco.com), and the standard 1% on everything else.

I supplement my miles and points strategy with cash back cards like this one. The 3% cash back on travel expenses helps me fund my future trips. And I regularly shop at Costco for the gas and groceries, so this card is one I will have permanently in my wallet.

I went to citi.com/costcosetup to activate the card and discovered that I couldn’t activate it, but just confirm my receipt of the card. I called customer service to find that I couldn’t use the card until June 20th due to the existing exclusivity contract with Amex. Boo.

Even if you don’t shop at Costco, I would recommend getting this card for the cash back on gas, restaurants, and travel. For the average household, and at current gas prices, you will break even on the $50 annual fee in about three months. Every spend after that is gravy!
